: My son's 3 month old red nosed pit is losing his hair on his head. Any idea what this could mean?

This has happened to my pit bull puppy also. I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with Red Mange. If this is what your puppy has, it isn't as scary as it sounds. It is caused by a mite which is present on ALL dogs. Puppies sometimes don't have a strong enough immune system to keep the mites in check, they multiply, and the hair falling out thing happens. The vet said it causes no discomfort, only looks ugly. Not contagious to people or animals. It takes quite awhile to get rid of. My dog was prescribed a medicine to be given everyday for a month, then a checkup, and even if there is no more problem, 30 more days of the medicine. But take your son's puppy to the vet and get it checked out regardless. You'll want to take the pup to the vet regardless. It may be red mange, and then it may be something else entirely.
